Czarnolas is a famous village, where famous poet Jan Kochanowski lived.The village used to belong to the Kochanowski family for a century, then frequently changed owners.
In 1830, on the site of the poet’s manor house, which burned down, a Neogothic chapel was erected. In 1961, in the Jabłonowski family’s manor house, the Jan Kochanowski Museum was established.
Janowiec – 25km
Most famous for renaissance castle built in between 1508–1526, on a steep Vistulan hillside in Janowiec (14,5 km south of Puławy). The castle is still in ruins, it has wonderful views of the river Wistula. Great place for a day trip, combined with Kazimierz Dolny.
Kazimierz Dolny – 40km
For a fascinating family trip, head for Kazimierz Dolny. It is a considerable tourist attraction as one of the most beautifully situated little towns in Poland. It enjoyed its greatest prosperity in the 16th and the first half of the 17th century, due to the trade in grain conducted along the Vistula.
It became an economic backwater after that trade declined, and this freeze in economic development enabled the town to preserve its Renaissance urban plan and appearance. Since the 19th century it has become a popular holiday destination, attracting artists and summer residents. Enjoy a walk around the historic market square, climb the hill and visit the castle ruins.
Puławy – 27km
The most valuable landmark in Puławy is the baroque-classicist Pałac Czartoryskich surrounded by park complex. It includes classicist park pavilions dating from the early 19th century.
Nałęczów – 57km
In the 18th century, the discovery there of healing waters initiated the development of a health resort; the main treatments are for circulatory disorders.
Notable landmarks include the 18th-century baroque-classicist Małachowski Palace(1771–73, since remodelled) and a park and resort complex dating from the 18th-19th centuries.
